The Liebster Award (AKA the Beloved Award?)

I was nominated for the Liebster Award (This is CRAZY. Amazing!) by Rayne (who writes AWESOME short stories and is the reason I requested The Lord of the Rings at my library), Noriko (who posts book reviews that I read to the END and fun fact: I had the supreme honor of being her 100TH follower), and Alex (who has a beautiful website and loves Kids of Appetite!)

If you’re like me, you are already going to check out their blogs simply because I inserted the links. If that doesn’t describe you at all, look at how pretty the shade of blue is! Isn’t it just SO CLICKABLE?

By the way, Liebster means beloved in German. Not that I speak the language, but thankfully, Google does! It also means boyfriend, sweetheart, and darling, but those don’t fit this situation.

Rules:

Rayne’s and Noriko’s rules were different, so I mashed them all together.

1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
2. Display the award on your blog. (Can anybody tell me how to do that?)
3. List these rules.
4. Answer the 11 questions the person asked you.
5. Provide ten random facts about yourself (optional).

Questions:

This is the portion of the tag where I talk non-stop about myself. For a while. Because there’s twenty-two of these: eleven from Noriko and eleven from Alex. I’ve hidden the ten random facts among my answers.

1. What inspired you to start blogging?

After I discovered that such things as blogs even exist, I immediately wanted to start my own. How could I not? If a person wrote about what they loved on the internet, there were other people who wanted to read what he or she wanted to say. SIGN ME UP.

So basically jealously. Jealously inspired me to start blogging.

Wow, that’s horrible.

2. Other than blogging, what are your passions in life? (name the top 1).

Reading. DEFINITELY.

3. Suppose you won a huge windfall that would surely last the rest of your life, what would you do with the money?

I GOT THIS.

• tithe 10%.
• take my dad to a Spurs game
• give my mom a huge REI giftcard
• open a bookstore or a homeless shelter
• buy all my favorite books

4. What is your ideal place to read?

Somewhere that’s comfortable? Haha, I’m not very picky with where I read.

5. If you could have dinner with an author, who would it be?

I have to say the apostle John. I would ask him all about Jesus. What his favorite food was, funny stories, first impressions. Anything and everything. How awesome would that be??

6. If you could have dinner with a book character, who would it be?

Atticus from To Kill a Mockingbird. He’s SO AWESOME.

7. Which of the following do you see yourself fit as a reader – having multiple books going at the same time or single-mindedly focusing on one book?

I usually read one book at a time, but right now I have multiple. His Excellency is a biography of George Washington that I’m working through slowly, My Berlin Kitchen is a food memoir which isn’t gripping enough for me to read straight through, and I just finished Red Rising. It was intense.

8. How would you describe yourself in a few words?

Oof. That’s tough. Wait a moment, I’m going to go get some help.

9. If you were famous for something, what would you like it to be?

For good books.

Watch a solar eclipse.

12. Who’s your favorite author of all time?

Lynda Mullaly Hunt. She wrote Fish in a Tree. 

Just THINKING about Albert standing up for Ally and Shay makes my heart feel like it’s going to explode. It’s also one of the few books that have made me cry.

I LOVE THAT BOOK SO MUCH.

13. If you could read only one genre for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Young adult.

14. Used books or brand new ones?

Used.

15. What’s your favorite place to read?

YES, I KNOW THE ANSWER NOW.

Somewhere comfortable.

16. Where do you want to travel at some point in your life?

Spain.

17. What’s the first book you remember reading?

I’m going to go with Dr. Dolittle.

18. How many books do you own?

Three hundred seventy-six.

I have no idea.

19. What are three hyped and popular books that you didn’t like?

Oh, great. I don’t know if any of these books were hyped (partly because two of these were published before I found the interent book world), but I think they’re considered popular in their own genres? Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen, Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, and My Life in France by Julia Child.

20. What languages do you speak and which one would you love to be able to speak?

I speak English and Chinese. I would love to be able to speak ANY other language.

21. Who are your auto-buy authors?

Laura Hillenbrand and Daniel James Brown. Laura Hillenbrand is the author of Seabiscuit and Unbroken. Daniel Jame Brown is that author of The Boys in the Boat, which is my second favorite book of all time. Those three books are the books that got me into non-fiction. I was pretty surpised to learn that not all non-fiction is boring. Crazy, right?

22. How many books are on your physical tbr?

Um, let’s not talk about that.
