Change starts with me

A month ago, Gracie set in motion a blogging project called Beautiful Ideas + Determined Bloggers = One Word: Change. I signed myself up and volunteered Jonathan before asking him first.

(He was in Yellowstone without wifi being amazed by God’s beautiful creations. Along with a whole bunch of Chinese families who had brought WAY too much food and random stuff. While other people were probably eating hotdogs and hamburgers, they were dining on hotpot.)

The due date for that project is August 8, and while I am not late, Jonathan and I didn’t really do the project. We came up with one but didn’t follow through.

I’m not surprised.

Here’s what we DO have. Our initiative is called change starts with me. (But after scrolling through Pinterest, I think be the change sounds cooler, like in Ghandi’s quote. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”) We came up with a list of things for us to do.
– pay for the person behind you
– ask your mom how her day was
– call your grandparents
– write a letter to a friend telling the person you appreciate him/her
– give water to construction workers
– comment something nice on a new-to-you blog
– buy a meal for a person who doesn’t have a home

I accomplished three of them. (whohoo go me…)

One of them was writing a letter to a friend. Mine was to my sister telling her how I love that she always texts me and that she lives in a city with a bunch of independent bookstores and cool shops and that she’s so silly sometimes and that she wears cool clothes and that her life choices aren’t so conventional, which means I don’t have to live up to a “perfect” older sibling like other kids. Totally selfish, I know.

This happened about a week later.

Sis: I got your letter! I read it twice then I made peter (her husband) read it too. It’s so sweet I love it!!! (double heart emoji)(double heart emoji)(double heart emoji)(red heart emoji)
Thanks so much for sending, I was so surprised. I’m going frame it or something.

Now THAT’S what I call a huge sucess. LET’S GO.

“A man on the beach where thousands of starfish lay dying in the sun saw a girl tossing them into the sea, one by one. “Why bother?” he asked. “You won’t make much of a difference.” Tossing yet another starfish into the sea, the girl said, “I made a difference to that one.”

And if you love Harry Potter or To Kill a Mockingbird.

  1. Aww I love random acts of kindness! (Also one of my favorite things to do is browse motivational / inspiring quotes on Pinterest 😂💚) I’m glad that your sis liked the letter you sent her! 🙂 I love getting mail. xxx

    1. Haha me too! I have a board full of so many of them. Oh my goodness, getting mail is one of the best things ever! It’s like Christmas morning.
